Been doing some thinking lately and since this new HDTV would only be used as a PC monitor for the most part, nor do I have any intentions of buying a blu-ray player anytime soon or ordering HD cable service. As a monitor it'll only access up to 60Hz anyway, plus I've been reading from a multitude of gaming sites that 120Hz causes some really bad mouse lag, screen tearing and other various problems. While others have said its not so bad and actually makes the screen better with the added pixels here and there. {dunno who to believe}
What I'm getting at really is possibly saving myself a little money. If I don't plan to use the 120Hz then why get it!? Although I've thought maybe if I had it, it'd help persuade me into getting more HD sources, but then I'm back at having been fine without them up til now. I really only wanted a new HDTV for the 1920*1080 native resolution and while getting that, might as well get a slightly larger screen.
I started at only wanting to spend $75 ~ $150, over the sale of my current HDTV. Next thing I knew following a little advice from strangers of various forums, I'm suddenly at over $600 with the latest Samsung model of 46". {I really don't want to spend that much, but would if it was worth it and necessary}
So I was at Wal-Mart the other night comparing TVs, and noticed they still carry the older 550 model of the 46" Samsung, {its not listing on their website for some odd reason} I like the design of it better than the 630 model, and when comparing the specs between the two, they're damn near identical in every way, besides one being 120Hz, and the other 60Hz, plus there is a $200-$250 price difference.
Was going to post links to the compare page, but these forums keep giving me errors when attempting to post both Best Buy and Samsung website links...ah well
Just search for these 2 models:
Thought I'd ask you all what you think about the 120Hz vs 60Hz debacle, when used as a PC monitor. I'm becoming a little annoyed with all this research, reading reviews, and random gaming articles, comparing specs and whatnot, and just want to settle on this final point and possibly go get it already....LOL
Turns out my current Proscan HDTV is not worth as much as I had thought and I may only be able to get about $275-$300 for it. Not bad, but makes getting a higher end TV more expensive!
